SCHOLARSHIP

Veronique's scholarship lives at the intersection of the empirical and the sacred, where ancestral knowledge, embodied practice, and rigorous inquiry meet. Working across theatre, writing, healing arts, and cultural memory, her work explores how storytelling functions as both artistic craft and healing technology, and how the body itself holds knowledge that the page and the stage can translate. This inquiry is inseparable from her creative practice, the questions she pursues as a scholar are the same ones she stages through Stage and Spirit, where storytelling becomes ceremony and the stage becomes sacred ground. Across panels, methodology, and creative-critical work, her scholarship is grounded in the conviction that lived experience and ancestral wisdom are valid and necessary forms of knowledge production.

The BACA² Method
Body, Breath & Character Alignment

The BACA² Method is Veronique MacRae's original somatic framework, built on the understanding that the body is the first text, and that breath, presence, and embodied awareness are the foundation of both performance and self-knowledge. The "²" reflects the method's two expressions: one for the stage, one for the life beyond it.

BACA² in Performance

The method's origin. Through movement, breathwork, vocal tone, and character development, performers learn to align body, breath, and character, deepening presence, releasing performance anxiety, and building roles from the inside out. Developed for actors and theatre artists, ages 13 through adult.

BACA² in Practice

The method's application beyond the stage. The same principles of breath, acknowledgement, creative action, and application are adapted for educational and community settings, where participants explore identity, belonging, and meaning through embodied reflection and theatre-based practice. No acting experience required.

Both expressions begin in the same place: the breath, the body, and the belief that we know more than we can say.

Sacred Sceience, Rational Spirit
Conversations at the Intersection of Craft & Consciousness

Sacred Science, Rational Spirit is a panel series conceived and founded by Veronique MacRae, presented at the Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP) Conference & Bookfair, the largest literary gathering in North America. Approached through the lens of playwriting and screenwriting, the series brings science and spirit into dialogue for a community of writers, asking how empirical rigor and sacred insight might function not as opposites but as complementary ways of knowing, particularly within Black knowledge systems, where lived experience, ancestral wisdom, and narrative have long been rigorous forms of knowledge production.

The series explores writing as ancient healing technology, the body as original text, and the ways storytelling, institutional practice, and cultural memory can hold both reason and revelation. Panelists have included Dr. Jordan W. Mims and Masha Dowell.

Now in development as an expanding platform, Sacred Science, Rational Spirit continues to grow as a space where writers, scholars, and practitioners hold reason and revelation in the same room.

Bring your whole way of knowing.
